Program Office/Description: 

The Office of Indigenous Education provides tuition, transportation and supplemental funds to 13 school districts educating Indigenous students of the nine (9) New York State Tribal Nations. Included are the Higher Education Indigenous students pursuing an Associates, Bachelor's, Graduate and Ph.D degree. Assisting school districts and tribal nations with educational technical assistance, tuition and transportation payments, academic data, cultural and language, social and mental well-being for Indigenous students. Overseeing three SED nation schools, Onondaga Nation School, St.Regis Mohawk School and Tuscarora Nation School with capital projects and operations and maintenance.Ìý
Purchasing of regular and electric school buses, vendor transportation contracts for schools serving Indigenous students residing on Tribal lands here in New York State.Ìý
Assisting post-secondary students with application process and required documents for approval of New York State Indian Aid and working with SUNY, CUNY, Private and Trades schools for assisting with financial assistance.Ìý
Coordinating Indigenous Advisory Council meetings with SED Commissioner and Tribal nations, collaborating with the Native American Indian Education Association, SED My Brothers Keeper and Bi-lingual Language programs, Culture and Language Teacher Certification, and School Summer Meals, Cultural Education and Museum.Ìý

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

The student intern will assist with educational data collecting, school sports mascot research, advisory council meetings, education conferences and post-secondary student recruitment outreach. The assignment the intern will be directly engaged will be the involvement of the My Brother's Keeper Indigenous Student College and Career Fair and Higher Education Indigenous Student Survey.Ìý

Schedule/Hours: 

Student intern must be available on Tuesday and Thursday ( pending students schedule) and assigned times of special educational meetings and events.Ìý
